Glen Eira U3A

Activities for everyone over 55 years

Our U3A, like other U3As around Australia depends on volunteer Tutors to deliver courses for our Members. It’s simple, without volunteer Tutors there would be no Glen Eira U3A!

WHAT DO WE WANT FROM OUR TUTORS?

The majority of our Tutors are not academics; they are people with:

  • a special interest
  • plenty of practical experience
  • an interest in people
  • a desire to share knowledge

So whether you have a formal qualification or not does not matter too much; what matters is if you have an interest and are prepared to communicate it to others. We know that our members have many interests to match the many skills of our Tutors.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF

We would like to know something about yourself so please don’t hesitate to tell us how you are able to help out.

ONGOING COURSES OR SHORT COURSES?

Well it’s up to you the tutor!

Some courses lend themselves to an ongoing format; for instances languages, drawing, painting, bridge playing, etc… A specific number of sessions may be more appropriate to some topics; from say, one session (How to minimise the Carbon Footprint of my home), three sessions (Introduction to Spreadsheets) or nine sessions (The Plays of Shakespeare). You determine your course.

TIME TABLING OF COURSES

You can opt to run your course weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Our courses frequently run for1½ to 2 hours, and may include a question time or even a refreshment break. Course scheduling is pre-agreed with the Tutor and run during daylight hours Monday to Friday.

The majority of courses take place at our own premises with facilities for computing, TV, video. Some Tutors may schedule sessions in a garden, a museum, a restaurant, a city walk, a museum, law courts, etc….

CAN WE HELP YOU?

If you have any queries you would like answered at any time, do not hesitate to contact the Course Coordinator. You can do that by phone, e-mail, appointment or letter.

So we hope that you realise that you don’t necessarily have to have a background in teaching! We can help you to the extent that you require. By talking to our Course Coordinator you can find out what resources would be available to help you. Do you need help with computer presentation, overhead projector, whiteboards, ….? We can help you with the practicalities of establishing a course format and guide you through the development process.
