COMPUTER TUITION

http://www.gcflearnfree.org/ Genuinely free excellent computer lessons, including excellent video tutorials

If you’ve got friends just starting out with computers they should have a look at this great free EU site. http://www.abcpc.no/english/index.html

http://inpics.net/ is an excellent pictorial site which teaches you how to use many programs including Word, Publisher, Excel and Powerpoint. If you prefer to avoid expensive Microsoft packages you can also learn Open Office software. It was created for people with learning difficulties so the approach is very user-friendly.

The BBC has some very good resources including introduction to the computer for the complete novice. If you have broadband and sound try  http://www.bbc.co.uk/computertutor/computertutorone/index.shtml Unlike most computer tutorials you can’t skip ahead to different things so you are forced to work at the online presenter’s pace and this can become annoying.

Here’s another site with free tutorials http://www.homeandlearn.co.uk/ written for beginners. Be aware that homeandlearn is commercial and they will try to sell you their packages. However, you do not have to buy. If you want to buy computer lessons you might prefer to stick to a local package such as http://www.learnoffice.net.au
